As Head of Innovation and Sustainability, Leela is responsible for the execution of TAU’s ESG and Impact strategy, including implementation and measurement of social and environmental initiatives across TAU’s portfolio companies. She also develops and manages key impact partnerships with values-aligned corporations and non-profits across a range of impact areas including healthcare, nutrition, access to finance, and education.
Leela brings over ten years of international finance experience across emerging markets and diverse asset classes. Prior to TAU, Leela worked at Barclays in Emerging Markets Fixed Income Distribution in New York, managing over 40 US client relationships with major investment managers and hedge funds investing in Emerging Asia, Latin America and EMEA; she advised on macroeconomic and political events and executed on client investment strategies, covering hard and local currency sovereign and corporate debt, credit and rates products, foreign exchange, and options. She also worked in investment management in Argentina for AIG. Leela began her career at a global monoline insurance company with responsibilities in asset management, portfolio hedging, and risk management of a $10+ billion portfolio of securitized products and project finance in the US, Australia, and Japan.
Additionally, Leela has worked for Technoserve in East Africa, where she conducted a sustainability and impact analysis in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda for the Gates-funded East African Dairy Development program. She has also worked at the Millennium Challenge Corporation evaluating potential uses of US development aid, and has volunteered with Endeavor in its selection process of high impact entrepreneurs.
Leela holds an M.A. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, a S.B. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations.
